PREPARATION  FOR RETREAT

What is Permaculture?

Permaculture is a holistic design approach that makes use of practices that our ancestors used and like their practices it mimics natural ecosystems to create sustainable, self-sufficient, and productive environments.  At its core, permaculture is all about working with nature, not against it. It’s a way of thinking that seeks to create harmonious, efficient systems that benefit humans and the environment.

What is included in retreat?

  • Contemplative gaze of nature
  • Practicing permaculture techniques of mending the soil.
  • Prayerful consideration of God’s goodness in creation
  • Reflective sharing
  • Appreciation of Francis of Assisi’s deep kinship with nature

What to bring for retreat

  • Dress as to be able to work with the soil.
  • Gloves and Jacket
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Water jug (not a one-use plastic water bottle, please)
  • Rain gear (umbrella and/or poncho – Liz has a few extra ponchos.)
  • Walking boots or shoes necessary.
