Sr. Liz Fuhr is a Marycrest Franciscan environmentalist with 20 years of experience leading nature retreats.  She wishes to provide an opportunity to experience the wisdom of the peoples who for millennia lived in balance with nature on this land and note its relationship to the Franciscan perspective.

Theme of Retreat -Traditional Ecological Knowledge:

Michael Alcazar will share how indigenous people became steeped in an intimate knowledge of many aspects of their surroundings and their daily lives. Over millennia, people learned how to grow food and to survive in sometimes difficult environments. In this retreat Michael will share the traditional ecological knowledge.

Liz Fuhr guided by Laudato Si, Pope Francis’ environmental encyclical, will share how we can learn how to relate to nature from our indigenous relatives. We seek to transform our thinking of humans as the center of creation (anthropocentric) to a humble (true) perspective that all of creation is connected in mutual essential relationships. Francis of Assisi embodied this relationship.

The retreat includes:

  • Reflection on self-actualization
  • Intro to traditional ecological knowledge
  • Time in solitude
  • Franciscan nature spirituality
  • Closing ceremony and reflections
